Another beautiful baby girl

It's another newborn session here on my blog - I do take other types of photos but I'm an uneven blogger at best, and somehow the newborns keep ending up here. (I have one more to post soon.)

Anyway, this darling little girl is the first baby in her family and I was so happy to get to meet her! I actually took some pictures for her parents after their wedding a couple of years ago. And I took senior portraits for her dad... that was awhile ago in 2010 (making me feel old), and I actually did blog that 8 years ago (I was much better about blogging back then). Kind of fun to see.

She has such beautiful eyes - I was glad that she was awake for some of the pictures.

Here is, as always, my round backdrop stand in use. We piled a few different slipcovers on, which we used and peeled off one by one, and also added some of the family's blankets and quilts.

Both parents are very musically talented, so I have some high hopes for this little girl.

Her beautiful mom is from the Philippines, pretty recently, and amazes me with her language skills.

And one with her grandma, who I think is very happy to have her first grand-baby living right here.

It is such an honor to get to photograph new babies - thanks so much to this family for bringing her to me when she was just 14 days old.

If you're interested in a newborn portrait session, I'd love to talk to you about it! Give me a call or email. There are a few things to know in order to make it as successful as possible.

Newborn sweetness

Oh, isn't this little girl the sweetest thing? I loved getting to work with her. Those cheeks!

I've been having fun with composite images lately. I told my daughter that I needed to borrow her tea set and she at first wasn't going to give it to me because she thought it was too fragile for the baby. We thought it was hilarious once we were both on the same page - the baby was not actually going to USE her tea set. Anyway, how cute is she here?

I always have to mention my round backdrop stand because honestly I like doing newborn portraits so much more now than I used to - it just makes it so simple. And I love the variety of slipcover colors I have now too - this lilac color is so soft.

This was as unwrapped as she was willing to get - sometimes it seems like no matter how well a baby is sleeping, unwrapping just makes them sad.

Baby's aunt both spun and knit this hat. Hearing this made me want to learn how to spin yarn - what a fun skill!

This slipcover is coffee colored on one side and sepia on the other.

Big Sister was so amazing - she was patient the whole time, even when the baby needed to stop and be soothed or eat. I was really impressed.

I am so happy to know this family! Thank you so much to them for bringing me their girls at this special time in their lives.

Senior portraits at the track. In the wind. (It's Albuquerque!)

We scheduled a great session, kind of down to the minute, for this senior track star. We started up at the Volcano Vista track, then we were going to hurry down to another location or two, starting at the perfect time for the light.

And - it was So. Windy. It's April! In Albuquerque!

Obviously he has short hair, so we could power through these, but it was ridiculously windy - I'm lucky I didn't drop a lens cap or something because it would have blown off.

I hate to reschedule because of weather, but we put it off a few days and the contrast was kind of amazing, as we finished up on a really lovely evening.

I've known this guy since he was just a little boy, and he impresses me so much! He's done an amazing job in high school and he's got a hugely bright future with a million options and opportunities to come.

Thanks so much for choosing me for these senior portraits (with and without the wind) - I can't wait to see where you go next!

If you have a high school senior or are a high school senior, I'd love to chat with you and discuss how to make your senior portraits the best they can be. Give me a call or email me for more information!

And now for something a little different - custom home photography

In the winter I often find myself with my camera in somewhat different situations. Last month I photographed a beautiful home built by Modern Dwellings.

Modern Dwellings designs and builds some really amazing buildings. My husband is friends with Todd and that got me a tour (with camera and tripod) of his latest home, which will be featured in the Parade of Homes this spring.

The view is amazing. It's in the East Mountains, if you're looking at the Parade of Homes website (which does not at this moment actually list the houses).

I think the window at the end of the hallway on the right side was my favorite feature - it's the same size as the hall, so it brings the outdoors in.

The bedroom has this cool LED lighting strip (you can adjust the colors).

The master bath is another amazing space.

I especially loved the tile. (I think I sound like a realtor. Nope, but I did really enjoy seeing the house.)

No landscaping is yet in place, so I didn't do too much with the exterior of the home. But you can see the beautiful design.

The wood porch ceiling is another feature that I love.

I don't do a lot of real estate photography but I did really enjoy the challenge of getting the lines straight and the angles right, and of course also getting to enjoy seeing this beautiful home. If you need professional photos of your property, you can give me a call - I would enjoy working with your home also!
