Newborn photo gear

I don't normally travel to my clients' homes for newborn portraits, but when they have other children, sometimes I feel like it makes more sense for me to go to them. And as I'd staged my stuff by the front door of my house, I was struck by the lack of volume of gear. I used to fill the back of my SUV to nearly overflowing. Since I started using my Baby Backdroplet, I take this amount of stuff only (plus my camera bag which somehow escaped this picture). A few slipcovers, a couple of extra blankets, cloth diapers, some wraps, one basket, everything fits in a plastic bin (almost). It's a lovely feeling!

Spring senior portraits in the bosque, with a horse

When anyone asks me if they can bring their pet OR THEIR HORSE with them for senior portraits, the answer is always yes! (Well, I guess there are locations where that wouldn't work, let's not probably bring a horse downtown, but we can definitely find something that would.) 

We planned this session in Corrales and started out at the beautiful Old Church.

It was breezy... this is spring after all... but that adds drama!

Then we headed over to the bosque, with her horse, which is just so much fun for me - and absolutely beautiful for photography.

She's off to New Mexico State next! Best wishes to this lovely senior and her mom!

Newborn + a cute little park

This sweet little guy was one week old when I got to meet him. I hadn't seen his family in awhile, and due to that thing where Facebook doesn't show you posts from very many of your friends, I didn't even know that they were expecting. What a fun surprise!

 

They have this cute little park across the street, and there was this one little spot of afternoon shade. It worked!

The three sweetest children you've seen all day

I first met this family ten years ago when their first son was born. They have been such a delight to photograph and get to know over the years!

 

Could these three be any more sweet? I think this is one of my favorite portraits of the year.

Or maybe this one.

The baby was so sweet for family portraits, then drifted off peacefully for his own. Sometimes babies really make it easy for me (thank you!).

Congratulations to an amazing graduate!

Senior portraits. Maybe my favorite kind of photography. And this is one of my favorite girls. I could gush for pages - I've thought so much of her ever since she was a sweet third grader with a backpack full of rocks and silly bands, sharing her treasures (and her lunch) with my kids and anyone else she thought they would help.

I can't really believe she just graduated, but time has marched on since these days and she obviously has grown up so beautifully.

 
But she's not just gorgeous. She will always stand up for someone who needs it. She's still generous. And she's crazy smart. Like, smart enough to win city-wide spelling bees in middle school without studying.

And I remember the day when she went down the waterslides at the pool something like 83 times, racing my little daughter, just to make her happy. Who does that???

And, we went out with the camera a few times. Obviously I had a hard time narrowing my blog post down to just a few favorites.

The cap and gown! What a great day.

I can't wait to see where this amazing girl goes next!
